Three Sisters on the South Rim

Three Sisters on the South Rim

$3,400.00

Acrylic and Chainstitch Embroidery on stretched canvas

30”x36”

I made it up to the South Rim in Big Bend National Park last spring for the first time. The hike nearly killed me, as I was still definitely recovering from cancer surgery, but it was absolutely glorious up there. The mountains in the distance of Mexico faded into the sky in a way that made the horizon impossible to decipher. Those desert dusty roses and faded blues and sage greens popped brilliantly everywhere. I’ve seen this place photographed, but of course being there in person was a much wilder experience and definitely worth the knee shredding it took to get there!

While I do use photographs for reference, I find I am much happier with the final piece when I rely more heavily on memory and dreams to create a landscape. This is certainly true in this piece.
